Shioya in Ogimi Village is known for a harvest festival called Ungami, which is held after Obon. Although its counterparts in other areas are changing as time goes by, Ungami in this area has been preserved in its original form dating back more than 500 years, with its highlight the ugan baarii (boat race). Attracting many spectators, the festivity presents the fascinating sight of women up to their waists in water drumming to welcome male boat racers.
