Legend has it that this castle was built by Amamikiyo, the god who created the Ryukyus, and that its lord, Tenson, was his descendant. This sacred site is part of the pilgrimage of Agari Umai, the route Amamikiyo traveled, and has been visited by pilgrims from the Ryukyu Kingdom era up until the present day.
