New shop in American Village sweetens your day

A new shop called Palm Wagon specializing in malasada, a Hawaiian-style doughnut of Portuguese roots, is opening on  Aug. 1 at the American Village in a bright yellow American school bus by the entrance of Kona’s Coffee, a popular Hawaiian-style café in American Village. Berry Brown Bowls, which specializes in acai bowls, will also open a counter on the same bus on the same day.

Malasadas are made by mixing flour and eggs with water and yeasting it at low temperatures to achieve a soft and sticky texture. A total of eight types are available, ranging from the standard sugar-sprinkled to cinnamon, coconut sugar, custard cream, and more.

At Berry Brown Bowls, there are four types of acai bowls: the original with a mix of plenty of fresh fruit, mango, pitaya (dragon fruit), and pineapple-coconut. The bowls can be combined with eight different toppings: banana, mango, kiwi, pineapple, strawberry, blueberry, granola, and cacao nibs.

The bus shop is open the same hours as Kona's Coffee, 11:00-23:00 every day, except it opens one hour early at 10:00 on U.S. holidays.
