Koza’s super-champuru music event on stage this Sunday

Champuru is a word originally meaning a stir-fried dish consisting of tofu mixed with some kind of vegetables, meat, spam, eggs, and often goya. It has also gained meaning in describing Okinawa City and its culture, as Okinawa City boasts residents from some 40 different countries, all living “mixed” together.

The city is celebrating the 50th anniversary of its establishment. One of the events to commemorate the anniversary is a free music event featuring many famous artists from Koza, which is an area in the heart of Okinawa City. Taking on the stage include “Murasaki,” an icon of Koza rock, a rock/R&B band “THE WALTZ,” Kazufumi Miyazawa,” who wrote and composed the popular song “Shima Uta,” Yutaka Sadoyama, an artist known for his Okinawa folk music, women shimauta group “Neneez,” Sadao China, and many others.

The number of tickets is limited, and numbered tickets required for admission are available at Okinawa Civic Hall, Ashibinaa Theater, Campus Records, Fukuhara Music Store, Teruya Music Store, Shima Piano Center, and Takara Music Store.
