Big bikes rule Gate 2 Festival
The Gate 2 Festival comes on Sunday on the heels of the Okinawa International Carnival on Saturday.
The festival offers an international ambiance that is befitting the city, which people from approximately 40 countries call home. Since 2008, the highlight of the Gate 2 Festival has been a parade of more than 100 Harley-Davidson and other large motorcycles along Gate 2 Street. The bike parade starts at 13:00
In addition to the parade, live bands are staging a “Battle of the Bands” show and food stalls serve delicious festival fare along the street.
The Gate 2 Festival is the only event in Japan where a public road is closed for a motorbike parade,
The festival starts at noon and runs through 19:00. The entire street is closed for traffic from 8:00 until the motorcycle parade is over at 13:30, after which the stretch from halfway up to Music Town will open while the part closer to Kadena Gate 2 will stay closed to vehicles until 21:00.
