The Itoman Haarii is the oldest dragon boat race on the island. It’s a traditional, unique festivity like nowhere else. During the week before the event, at Santimou, a shrine by a hill in the middle of the village, a gong is struck to announce the coming of the haarii. Racers have diligently practiced for 40 days prior to the event, and their determination is clear for all to see. The Itoman Haarii has more than 20 categories of races.
