Weekend Uruma Eisa Festival highlights traditions

Uruma City is credited with having the longest tradition of Eisa dancing in Okinawa, and its Eisa Festival 2024 is this year being organized for the 19th time.

The festival features performing youth groups from various local districts, each with a unique costume and dance style. For example, the Yakena Eisa group presents a dignified Eisa with gorgeous costumes, while the Heshikiya Eisa group dances barefeet. The local Children’s Association also fields its own Eisa group.

A shuttle bus to the venue runs from Uruma Citizens’ Art Theater, Uruma Citizens’ Art Theater, Uruma City Gushikawa General Gymnasium, Uruma City Ishikawa Hall, and Yonashiro General Park Multi-Purpose Stadium.

Parking is not available near the venue, so visitors are recommended to use the shuttle bus or public transportation.
